A big shout out of THANKS to Domtar! In September DQ librarians attended the De Queen Mena Educational Coop's LMS Fall Forum held in the Ashdown Middle School. During that meeting, those in attendance toured the middle and high school libraries then visited the Domtar Offices where they were surprised with a big donation of books. The donation was in connection to a community literacy outreach program headed by Tammy Waters of Domtar. Thanks so much Tammy and Domtar!

Technology is everywhere in education. DES is a 1-1 school where teachers are making the most ingenious and effective uses of all the newest tools at their disposal. Cubs with Character is a program at De Queen Elementary that seeks to recognize positive character traits and behavior in our students. Teachers nominate students weekly for recognition. Teachers also nominate students each month who consistently show good character qualities, and a boy and a girl from each grade level will be chosen to be recognized as Students of the Month from those nominations.


Ka’Ryiah Owens has earned 25 points and now has her Leopard on the Spot on AR board in 5th Grade!

Mrs. Kidd’s 3rd grade class is making traditional Folk Art Tissue Paper Flowers for Hispanic Heritage Month. Tissue paper flowers are used for traditional celebrations, parades, and events. The artist Frida Kahlo uses many flowers in her artwork to show her Hispanic roots.


DES is all about ART in Education week! 5th grade is making Papel Picado banners for Hispanic Heritage Month. Papel Picados’s creations date back to the Aztecs which were one of the first natives of Mexico.


Genesis Nieto is the first third grader to get on the 20 point club wall!
