Career Technical Education

De Queen Public Schools students engaged in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are both college and career ready. A variety of opportunities are available outside the classroom including internships, competitive events, field trips, and professional networking. Students who are involved in CTE are more engaged, perform better and graduate at higher rates.

What is CTE?

Career and Technical Education is intended to provide students with skills needed in the labor market and to prepare them for post-secondary study in technical areas.

The emphasis is on real-world connections to classroom activities — students learn professional and technical skills by practicing those skills. Traditional CTE programs include such vocational courses as automotive repair and welding, but many states offer courses in desktop design applications under the CTE umbrella.

Rather than competing with academic-based college preparation programs, CTE can supplement academic programs, according to the Brookings Institute.

De Queen Public Schools hosts the most comprehensive and diverse career and technical education program in Southwest Arkansas. Our CTE programs prepare our students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers in:
